Name and Etymology:
The origin of the name Shtime is unknown and might originate with Illyrian languages.
Economy:
The economy of Shtime is based on stone quarrying, agriculture, and fruit production. There is also a mental hospital in town.
History:
Shtime likely has prehistoric origins but is first mentioned as the seat of a Serbian royal castle in the 1300s. Following the battle of Kosovo, Shtime passed to Ottoman rule. Albanian insurgents in the region defeated Ottoman forces in 1910; the area was then absorbed by Serbia, becoming part of Yugoslavia.
